An immortal map of june 16 around midnight

640px-Genoese_map

The stars that freckle your face

In this timeless space of words like dust

When torn jeans are lust

On a summer evening ‘neath the tree where your great-grandfather broke his arm

But we can’t feel his pain

No more than we can feel the rain

Of bullets halfway ‘cross the world

Of blood that paints hieroglyphics

But they can’t see that from space.

And I really doubt the ISS will mind

If two earthlings in this random corner of nowhere

Squirm a little, altering the temporochemical balance of this moment

So I can trace the map of tiny worries dividing your forehead into warring nations

Leaving a smooth sea of freckle-constellations

Until the words on your lips fade to the ocean’s music

Until we melt into the mud

Nameless, unremembered, happy.
