Paint Still Wet

The sea sends paint daubs, trying

Breath breaks at the shoreline

between bare new soles

and footsteps that trench tire wounds in the sand.

The dream lends paper seabirds, limping

Sound slows as the orchestra denudes of violins and unbrooches the timpani to fly away on doves’ wings

The last clarinet fleets, a lone blot before the sun whose whispers echo on flatness.

The painted lovers refract inside the frame

a wax teardrop tallying minutes, a gossamer hour of silence

In jaded moonlight, red wine rolls as the last sails wake, backs to you, sterns homeward

No one realizes you are the missing passenger.
