The Grass Has Been Touched

– though it’s hard to see from a distance

if you look

you’ll catch

a slight moonlight outlining the blades

like a sugar-palace of the winter’s night-dynasty melted into history

by morning, the only thing left standing –

a whiter green, a crest and break

outlining one tragic empire in time’s

ocean –

the only thing left forever standing, forever

bent

and bitten-faced by the silver

ice, the grass tells a history

to those who will bend and lend an ear.
